Client Spotlight: W.E. Brown Gives Back

If you’re a resident of Charlottesville, Virginia, there’s a chance you’ve had to call up W.E. Brown at some point to check on your HVAC system or deal with a plumbing emergency. W.E. Brown is a local plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical company serving the Charlottesville area since 1922 - and celebrated their 100th anniversary last year! (Not to mention, they just won Best of C-VILLE 2023 for Best Plumber!)

Hive began working with W.E. Brown in December of 2022, managing their organic and paid social media strategy and writing a monthly email newsletter and blog. One of our favorite things about this client is their generosity to our Charlottesville community. W.E. Brown has been giving back for years to local nonprofits in the area by sponsoring the production of a promotional video about the organization and getting the footage aired on a local news channel. It’s a way for nonprofits to get in the spotlight and raise awareness and support for their tireless work in the community. This year, we helped W.E. Brown give the program a fresh look and feel. That meant assisting with officially naming the program “W.E. Give Back” and creating a unique logo to use on any promotional materials related to the campaign.

The best part about being an agency that works with so many different businesses is that we get involved firsthand in various events, projects, and entrepreneurial endeavors across Charlottesville. This time, it was collecting nominations, creating organic and paid social to promote the W.E. Give Back program, coordinating meetings, and, best of all, getting on-site for the preliminary meeting and video shoot.

The first nonprofit selected this year for the W.E. Give Back campaign was Camp Holiday Trails (CHT), a year-round nonprofit camp for kids with special needs in Charlottesville since 1973! The first step was to visit the organization with some of the team from W.E. Brown, where we met Tina, the Executive Director of CHT. She showed us around the extensive campgrounds where kids can have many different activities at their fingertips, from archery, swimming, and horseback riding to arts and crafts and countless more. There are golf carts that make the trails accessible for each camper and a staff full of camp counselors who have fond memories of being a kid at camp themselves.

The next step was to set a date for W.E. Brown’s long-time videographer contact, Tommy Terrell of Crystal Video, to come out to camp and film the promotional video. We followed him and captured behind-the-scenes footage for W.E. Brown’s social media. We heard about camp through the lens of Tina and a former camper-turned-counselor as they shared their stories in interview form. (Check out the finished product through the link at the end of this article!)

Camp Holiday Trails is just one of the many nonprofits local to Charlottesville, making a difference in our community daily. If you know of a nonprofit that deserves its own moment in the spotlight, the W.E. Give Back program is still accepting nominations and looking for opportunities to promote these incredible organizations. You can nominate your favorite nonprofit and help W.E. Brown give back by filling out this simple form.
