Five Ways to Boost Your SEO

What Is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic through organic search engine results.

While tactics like social media posts and paid advertising can help bring traffic to websites, simple SEO techniques can help make your website rank higher on popular search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo and ensure that you’re reaching your desired audiences. Here are five SEO tips:

  1.  Be Strategic With Keywords

The keywords you use make a big difference in how easily people can find your website. Keywords can determine how your website appears in popular search engines. Make sure to have the keywords and phrases your audience(s) will most likely use to search for your site woven throughout the main content, as well as on headings, and site and page titles.

  2.  Provide Quality Content

This sounds simple, but can be hard to follow. By providing unique, high quality content that addresses the needs and interests of your audience, you can attract more visitors to your site. Focus on the search intent of your audience and be thoughtful with the content you’re producing. What’s important to your audience? What problem are they trying to solve? These are important questions to ask. Quality matters over quantity, so it is better to put a lot of effort into a few posts than having many low-quality posts.

  3.  Customize Page And Site Titles

Search engines typically prioritize site titles, page titles, blog post titles, and headings. These titles also appear in search engine results and browser tabs, so it’s important to write them so they’re user- and bot-friendly. Google typically displays only 50-60 characters of the title tag, so keeping it short will help get the main idea of the content across to your audience.

  4.  Take Advantage Of Local SEO

For small businesses, local SEO can be used to help attract local visitors to your site. Local SEO works so that your website is optimized for the search results of your designated local community. Include the name of your city or town in page titles, page descriptions, map blocks, and throughout the main copy.

  5.  Pay Attention To Image Size And Alt Text

Properly sized images will load faster on your page, overall improving the page speed. This ranks your website higher on search engines, leading more visitors to your page. Also, using alt text for each image lets search engines understand what the image is so they can include it in relevant searches (and will make your site more accessible for those with visual impairments).
